This summer I been great, I learned so much, I am really glad I came to Houston, to come back to my long lost relationship with my father, old friends, people at work, and found a church home here in Houston. When summer begin I see God bring those people to my life, I didn't know what to do with them, only thing I knew is that God want me to do something with them to glorify His name, I didn't know how. As summer progressed, God begin first to teach me about pride, and humility. Immediately after that I found my summer verse, it is from Matthew 22,
"34Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" 37Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[2] 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[3] 40All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
Love that is what Christ did for me, and that is what I need to be doing, that is what my focus should be, love my God, love the world, and even love my enemy. I realized the Great Commission, the quite time we spend with God, evangelism, and all those things we suppose to do is a result of that love Christ calls us to do. If we truly love our God, our neighbor as our self, we will do all those things, and it is not a burden, for Christ has come to set us free.
So everyday I pray that God teach me to love as he did, rather think what would Jesus do, but I thought to myself, how would Jesus love.
Last week, I say goodbye to my office mate, that I shared an office with Dan for the summer, he is from England, don't believe in God, always ask question such as, why there are 4 billion year old rock, about evolution, everything but his own personal relationship with God. His heart is hardened, so there is no point arguing with him, for his heart is hardened, so I just tried my best to love him, share my lunch with him, hangout with him, and help him. Last Thursday he left for England, before he left, me Ross and Kate, they also are Christian we attend the same bible study at work, we invite Dan for lunch, and I give him a bible, that same bible that I tried to give to my professor. Dan took it and Ross told me that he really looked as if he really wanted, he told me he will read it, and was asking me and Kate where to start, when he was leaving, he give me a hug and shook my hands 3 times before he went. God is so good, and His words are so true, that following him is not hard, the great commission is not hard, it is easy, He just calls all of us to love simply. Use our love to melt their cold hearts.
Also during summer I was invited to a 21st birthday party, at first I didn’t want to go. Because I know what this kind of party usually is, probably will be lot of drinking, smoking, people are not the usual people I am accustomed to, and many temptations. I thought to myself, do I really wanted to go? No way, I don’t think I will enjoy myself there. Then I thought to myself, if the people there are like anything I imagined to be, this will be an excellent opportunity to evangelize, to be a brightly burning candle that shine onto their dark void in their soul. So I went, on my way, I prayed to God that He come tonight, shown Him self to there people tonight, I am not going to even try with my own effort, but He is going come and use me just as the way I am to do His work. I went to the party and it was just exactly what I though it is, I talked to them and made friends with them, later on that evening they invite me to bowling with them, on the way one guy I meet shared his life story with me, how he left home at 16, out on his own since, how he didn’t have a father, how his father abused him and I shared my testimonies with Him, told him that if he “Seek first his kingdom and his Righteousness, all you need will be added you.” That the Lord will provide, just do his best, all you “need” will be given to him. He told me later that evening that He is Catholic, He thank me for tonight talking to him. As I left them that evening, those guys asked for my number, they invited me to join them every Saturday at bowling. It is so true like that song says
“There is a candle in every soul
Some brightly burning, some dark and cold
There is a Spirit who brings a fire
Ignites a candle and makes His home
So Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, confused and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, and go light your world”
Finally I like to share with you my 2nd verse for the summer
Jeremiah 9
23 This is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD , who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD .
This summer I realized the closer I walk towards God, more alive I feel, more joyful I become, I got to watch a video of me when I was 6 year old in China, how joyful little boy I was, I realize I have become more like that little boy who I used to be. Not resting in my mom's lap, but resting in my heavenly Father's lap.
"See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
